I’m excited to be participating in The Longest Day® to show my love for my Grandmother GaSara and for all those affected by Alzheimer’s disease. My Grandmother (my siblings and I called her GaSara) reared us from the time she was 60 and we were 2, 3 and 5 years old. In 1989, when I was 27, and GaSara was almost 85, my then partner Marjorie and I became GaSara’s Caregiver. We gave her our best love and care through the next devastating 5 years of her life until her death from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. We also became rabid advocates for our local community.

On June 21, I am joining others around the world and doing what I love to honor people living with Alzheimer’s, their Caregivers, and those lost to the disease, while raising funds and awareness to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Recovering from lumbar surgery I can’t yet get out and run for the cause so, all day long I will be reading books written by Alzheimer’e Caregivers and/or Persons with Alzheimer’s disease. And for each book I read, I will write a review and post it to my own website https://www.caregiverscompanion.org and share it through my social media connections. I’ll also be walking around my property so I don’t get stuck in the seated position!

Today, an estimated 47 million people across the world are living with dementia. This number is set to skyrocket to 75 million by 2030. In the United States alone, more than 15 million Caregivers generously dedicate themselves to those with Alzheimer’s and dementia. These numbers will only continue to rise unless we take action.

Together, we can show those facing Alzheimer’s disease they are not alone. Please make a donation to help the Alzheimer’s Association advance research toward the first survivor of Alzheimer’s and provide care and support to those facing the disease today.

And if any of you Alzheimer’s authors want to comp me a book for review, get in touch and I’ll tell you where to send it! We don’t have a lot of time before June 21.

Thank you to all of you who will donate what you can, in memory of GaSara and so many others! Just click on the link below. It’s easy to donate!
